Abstract
General Background: Film serves as a powerful medium that reflects societal issues and functions as an informational tool, conveying messages across various domains such as entertainment, politics, and propaganda. Specific Background: "Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso" presents a true story intertwined with significant propagandistic elements that captivated public attention. Knowledge Gap: Despite the film's popularity, there is limited scholarly analysis focusing on the propagandistic elements and their implications within the narrative. Aims: This study aims to explore the propagandistic elements within "Ice Cold," examining how these elements engage with public discourse and perception. Results: Employing a qualitative approach alongside Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, the findings indicate that the film incorporates white, black, and gray propaganda, which collectively foster scapegoating and attempt to shift public opinion as evidenced throughout the storyline. Novelty: This research contributes to the understanding of how film narratives can perpetuate propagandistic themes and influence societal perceptions. Implications: The results highlight the film's role in shaping public discourse, suggesting the need for critical engagement with cinematic portrayals of real-life events and their potential to manipulate audience perspectives.
